Kids Poses – Salt Lake City, UT Portrait Photographer
A few weeks back, I was privileged to photograph a large extended family in Salt Lake City, UT. Whenever I take photos for large extended families (and small immediate families too for that matter) I always take individual photos of each child. With that, a large variety of poses is a MUST. I find that it works best when I actually sit on the ground and pose how I would like to have the child pose. I then let them do their best to imitate me and I quickly fix where their hand is or fix their hair etc. THEN comes the trickier part, I do my best to get them to laugh or smile naturally so that their body loosens up and isn’t in a “tense” or “nervous” position. Often times, having a funny family member nearby is helpful although I like it best when I can be the entertainer because the child will be more likely to look into the camera. Getting the perfect portrait often takes a few minutes, but I am snapping photos the entire time because you never know when you’ll get the perfect shot. I also move around a bit so the child doesn’t feel like they have to stare into one particular area. The process takes patience, but it is so rewarding to capture a nicely posed and natural smiling child portrait!
